Tribals protested against the Meitei reservation on Wednesday in the Churachandpur district in response to a March 27 high court order requiring the state government to submit a recommendation to the Centre within four weeks regarding the Meitei community's demand for ST status.

Regarding the situation in Manipur, a number of petitions have also been filed with the Supreme Court. One of these petitions was filed by a ruling BJP MLA to challenge the order of the high court granting Scheduled Tribe status to the Meitei community. Another petition was filed by a tribal organization to request an SIT investigation into the violence that broke out last week in the northeastern state.

G Kishan Reddy, the Union Minister for Development of the North Eastern Region, stated on Sunday that the Central government was prepared for talks to end the Manipur conflict. Reddy stated that the Centre was not obstinate when it came to the welfare of individuals and that it even withdrew three Farm Laws after agriculturists demanded that the contentious regulations be repealed.
